  2. particles from noncolloidal (crystalloid)
  3. ones in solution using a semipermeable
  4. membrane (which allows the passage of the
  5. smaller, noncolloidal particles but not the
  6. larger, colloidal ones). Dialysis can thus
  7. separate, for example, salts from proteins in
  8. blood, which is the natural process in the
  9. filtration system of the kidneys and the
  10. engineered equivalent in a dialysis
